The entrepreneur always searches for change, responds to it, and exploits it as an opportunity. Efficiency is doing things right; effectiveness is doing the right things. Don't try to innovate for the future. Innovate for the present! Management by objectives works if you first think through your objectives. Ninety percent of the time you haven't. Do not believe that it is very much of an advance to do the unnecessary three times as fast. Executives owe it to the organization and to their fellow workers not to tolerate nonperforming individuals in important jobs. Companies have three responsibilities: 1) make a profit, 2) satisfy employees, and 3) be socially responsible. Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work. Forecasting is not a respectable human activity and not worthwhile beyond the shortest of periods. Institutions mistake good intentions for objectives. They say health care; that's an intention, not an objective. More business decisions occur over lunch and dinner than at any other time, yet no MBA courses are given on the subject. The corporation is the master, the employee is the servant. Because the corporation owns the means of production without which the employee could not make a living, the employee needs the corporation more than vice versa. The corporation is the “master”, the employee is the “servant”. Because the corporation owns the means of production without which the employee could not make a living, the employee needs the corporation more than vice versa. Innovation is the specific tool of entrepreneurs, the means by which they exploit change as an opportunity for a different business or a different service. It is capable of being presented as a discipline, capable of being learned, capable of being practiced. Entrepreneurs need to search purposefully for the sources of innovation, the changes and their symptoms that indicate opportunities for successful innovation. And they need to know and to apply the principles of successful innovation. Most Popular Topics:
