If a photograph looks perishable we say, "Gee, I"m glad I have that moment. ~ ~ Ideally, the umpire should combine the integrity of a Supreme Court judge, the physical agility of an acrobat, the endurance of Job and the imperturbability of Buddha. ~ ~ In the last analysis, of course, an oath will encourage fidelity in office only to the degree that officeholders continue to believe that they cannot escape ultimate accountability for a breach of faith. ~ ~ We all have a disability of some kind; all are lacking in one way or another. Saul has an injury to his leg. What if his personality was deformed? How much worse if his soul was lame? Preachers or teachers look for the good in all of us. (Bless them for doing so.) I don't see a cripple. I haven't met anyone yet who isn't handicapped in some way. So what's the big deal? Don't hide your deformity. Wear it like a Purple Heart. ~ ~ I'm a passionate believer in the inherent creativity possessed by all people and our inherent ability--if it's not clouded by convention--to appreciate authentic beauty in all forms, whether we like it or not. ~ ~ One of the Internet's strengths is its ability to help consumers find the right needle in a digital haystack of data. ~ ~ Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. Leave time, leave space, to grow. Now. Now! Not tomorrow! ~ ~ Every American deserves to live in freedom, to have his or her privacy respected and a chance to go as far as their ability and effort will take them - regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or economic circumstances. ~ ~ Although I'm proposing these two rules to strengthen your ability to deal with backstabbing, you're still going to have to protect yourself - you don't want to get stabbed in the front for your troubles. ~ ~ We "need" cancer because, by the very fact of its incurability, it makes all other diseases, however virulent, not cancer. ~ ~ Email, instant messaging, and cell phones give us fabulous communication ability, but because we live and work in our own little worlds, that communication is totally disorganized. ~ ~ The ancient Romans had a tradition: whenever one of their engineers constructed an arch, as the capstone was hoisted into place, the engineer assumed accountability for his work in the most profound way possible: he stood under the arch. ~ ~ In our time, the curse is monetary illiteracy, just as inability to read plain print was the curse of earlier centuries. ~ ~ Education is more than Pisa. At least not any more than lighting a votive candle, praying for a sick friend, or carrying a lucky charm is. However, there are some who do view witchcraft as evil.
