~ Abolition of a woman's right to abortion, when and if she wants it, amounts to compulsory maternity: a form of rape by the State. ~ ~ Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born. ~ ~ Abortion is the ultimate exploitation of women. ~ ~ One of the most basic problems with abortion is this, you give the women a voice, but where's the man's voice? ~ ~ I've noticed that everybody that is for abortion has already been born. ~ ~ Morality becomes hypocrisy if it means accepting mothers suffering or dying in connection with unwanted pregnancies and illegal abortions - and unwanted children living in misery ~ ~ If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament ~ ~ Without any evidence, the report just asserts that increased access to contraception reduces the numbers of unintended pregnancies and therefore abortions. But that assumption is unwarranted ~ ~ If the Plan B battle reveals anything, it's that the opponents' real agenda is not to prevent unintended pregnancy and abortion. If that were so, they would be for all forms of contraception. They'd be for better sex education. They'd be for more family-planning counseling. The problem is the right doesn't want greater access to birth control, ... and their opposition to Plan B proves it ~ ~ It is very important that we have access to safe, legal pregnancy termination services, whether it is emergency contraceptives right after the assault or an abortion service ~ ~ Prior to Roe , ... whether one could obtain a legal abortion in the face of an unwanted pregnancy was a crap shoot. For 30 years now, it's been a constitutionally guaranteed right ~ ~ That is why I fought against abortion and that is why if I were still in the Senate I would be doing everything I could to defend the sanctity of marriage. ~ ~ No woman wants an abortion. Either she wants a child or she wishes to avoid pregnancy. ~ ~ If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament. ~ ~ If we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people to not kill each other? Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what they want. ~ ~ Abortion is inherently different from other medical procedures because no other procedure involves the purposeful termination of a potential life. ~ ~ [T]he line between lawful and unlawful abortion will be marked by the fact of having sensation and being alive. ~ ~ Abortion is the greatest deception that has plagued the black church since Lucifer himself. ~ ~ If women must submit to abortion to preserve their lifestyle or career, their economic or social status they are pandering to a system devised and run by men for male convenience. ~ ~ If men were equally at risk from this condition - if they knew their bellies might swell as if they were suffering from end-stage cirrhosis, that they would have to go nearly a year without a stiff drink, a cigarette, or even an aspirin, that they would be subject to fainting spells and unable to fight their way onto commuter trains - then I am sure that pregnancy would be classified as a sexually transmitted disease and abortions would be no more controversial than emergency appendectomies ~ ~ If men were equally at risk from this conditionóif they knew their bellies might swell as if they were suffering from end-stage cirrhosis, that they would have to go nearly a year without a stiff drink, a cigarette, or even an aspirin, that they would be subject to fainting spells and unable to fight their way onto commuter trainsóthen I am sure that pregnancy would be classified as a sexually transmitted disease and abortions would be no more controversial than emergency appendectomies. ~ ~ If men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament ~ ~ Bill is striving for common ground reducing the number of unintended pregnancies, getting to a place where there are fewer and fewer and fewer abortions. One of the great things about campaigning is you get to define and redefine yourself, and that's what Bill Ritter is doing right now ~ ~ If men were equally at risk from this condition -- if they knew their bellies might swell as if they were suffering from end-stage cirrhosis, that they would have to go nearly a year without a stiff drink, a cigarette, or even an aspirin, that they would be subject to fainting spells and unable to fight their way onto commuter trains -- then I am sure that pregnancy would be classified as a sexually transmitted disease and abortions would be no more controversial than emergency appendectomies ~ ~ Indeed, an entire generation of Americans has grown to adulthood since the Roe decision of 1973, which held that the right to choose an abortion was a privacy right protected by our Constitution ~ ~ Morality becomes hypocrisy if it means accepting mothers suffering or dying in connection with unwanted pregnancies and illegal abortions - and unwanted children living in misery. ~ ~ If the anti-abortion movement took a tenth of the energy they put into noisy theatrics and devoted it to improving the lives of children who have been born into lives of poverty, violence, and neglect, they could make a world shine. ~ ~ The product, abortion, is skillfully marketed and sold to the woman at the crisis time in her life. She buys the product, finds it defective and wants to return it for a refund. But, it's too late. ~ ~ The cruel irony is that abortion has been presented as something that would set a woman free. This brings to mind the gypsy in Verdi's opera Il Trovatore. Outraged by the count's cruel injustice, she stole his infant son and, in a crazed act of vengeance, flung him into the fire. Or so she thought. For, in turning around, she discovered the count's son lay safe on the ground behind her; it was her own son she had thrown into the flames. Abortion can present itself as glittering liberty, a defiant way to cast off the shackles of injustice. That illusion lasts only until you realize who it was that you threw into the flames. So the second point to make when trying to persuade is that abortion hurts women; it does not deliver on its promise to liberate them. ~ ~ No one wants an abortion as she wants an ice cream cone or a Porsche. She wants an abortion as an animal, caught in a trap, wants to gnaw off its own leg. ~ |
