~ We are all, in a sense, experts on secrecy. From earliest childhood we feel its mystery and attraction. We know both the power it confers and the burden it imposes. We learn how it can delight, give breathing space and protect. ~ ~ Actions are always more complex and nuanced than they seem. We have to be willing to wrestle with paradox in pursuing understanding. ~ ~ I became successful due to several reasons. I never gave up and I never let anyone or anything get in my way. I use the power of positive thinking to tackle obstacles and challenges so they don't defeat me. Passion for my work and my business is another important reason. I really love my work and I get great satisfaction from it. ~ ~ The country of the tourist pamphlet always is another country, an embarrassing abstraction of the desirable that, thank God, does not exist on this planet, where there are always ants and bad smells and empty Coca-Cola bottles to keep the grubby finger-print of reality upon the beautiful. ~ ~ I have found no greater satisfaction than achieving success through honest dealing and strict adherence to the view that, for you to gain, those you deal with should gain as well. ~ ~ Happiness includes chiefly the idea of satisfaction after full honest effort. No one can possibly be satisfied and no one can be happy who feels that in some paramount affairs he failed to take up the challenge of life. ~ ~ The proximity of an army causes prices to go up; and high prices cause people's substance to be drained away. When their substance is drained away, they will be afflicted by heavy exactions. With this loss of substance and exhaustion of strength, the homes of the people will be stripped bare, and their incomes dissipated. ~ ~ Meditation is the life of the soul: Action, the soul of meditation. And honour the reward of action. ~ ~ We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions. ~ ~ The easiest period in a crisis situation is actually the battle itself. The most difficult is the period of indecision -- whether to fight or run away. And the most dangerous period is the aftermath. It is then, with all his resources spent and his guard down, that an individual must watch out for dulled reactions and faulty judgment. ~ ~ Noble blood is an accident of fortune; noble actions characterize the great. ~ ~ If a wise man behaves prudently, how can he be overcome by his enemies? Even a single man, by right action, can overcome a host of foes. ~ ~ Another novelty is the tea-party, an extraordinary meal in that, being offered to persons that have already dined well, it supposes neither appetite nor thirst, and has no object but distraction, no basis but delicate enjoyment. ~ ~ Politics ... regarded as the study and pursuit of the true, enduring good of a community, as the application of great and unchangeable principles to public affairs, is a noble sphere of thought and action; but politics, in its common sense, or considered as the invention of temporary shifts, as the playing of a subtle game, as the tactics of party for gaining power and the spoils of office, and for elevating one set of men above another, is a paltry and debasing concern. ~ ~ The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism. Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images. ~ ~ The greatest comfort of my old age, and that which gives me the greatest satisfaction, is the pleasing remembrance of the many benefits and friendly offices I have done to others. ~ ~ The remembrance of a beloved mother becomes a shadow to all our actions; it precedes or follows them. ~ ~ I love friends, I want more friends. I love smiles. That is a fact. How to develop smiles? There are a variety of smiles. Some smiles are sarcastic. Some smiles are artificial-diplomatic smiles. These smiles do not produce satisfaction, but rather fear or suspicion. But a genuine smile gives us hope, freshness. If we want a genuine smile, then first we must produce the basis for a smile to come. ~ ~ A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions. ~ ~ The government is tottering. We must deal it the death blow an any cost. To delay action is the same as death. ~ ~ Every day God patiently bears with us, and every day we are tempted to become impatient with our friends, neighbors, and loved ones. And our faults and failures before God are so much more serious than the petty actions of others that tend to irritate us! God calls us to graciously bear with the weaknesses of others, tolerating them and forgiving them even as He has forgiven us. ~ ~ A thought which does not result in an action is nothing much, and an action which does not proceed from a thought is nothing at all. ~ ~ Thoughts lead on to purpose, purpose leads onto actions, actions form habits, habits decide character, and character fixes our destiny. ~ ~ The economy is one ugly event away from contraction. ~ ~ In action be primitive; in foresight, a strategist. ~ ~ Man punishes the action, but God the intention. ~ ~ A life of reaction is a life of slavery, intellectually and spiritually. One must fight for a life of action, not reaction. ~ ~ Each decision we make, each action we take, is born out of an intention. ~ ~ What I know for sure is that your life is a multipart series of all your experiences- and each experience is created by your thoughts, intentions, and actions to teach you what you need to know. Your life is a journey of learning to love yourself first and then extending that love to others in every encounter. ~ ~ Look at Christ, my dear friend: His life was divine through and through, full of self-denial, and He did everything for mankind, finding His satisfaction and His delight in the dissolution of His material being. ~ |
