~ The sounder your argument, the more satisfaction you get out of it. ~ ~ Simply look with perceptive eyes at the world about you, and trust to your own reactions and convictions. Ask yourself: "Does this subject move me to feel, think and dream? Can I visualize a print - my own personal statement of what I feel and want to convey - from the subject before me? ~ ~ Any genuine philosophy leads to action and from action back again to wonder, to the enduring fact of mystery. ~ ~ Man supposes that he directs his life and governs his actions, when his existence is irretrievably under the control of destiny ~ ~ The liberties of a people never were, nor ever will be, secure, when the transactions of their rulers may be concealed from them ~ ~ That the principle and construction contended for by sundry of the state legislatures, that the general government is the exclusive judge of the extent of the powers delegated to it, stop nothing short of despotism; since the discretion of those who administer the government, and not the constitution, would be the measure of their powers:
That the several states who formed that instrument, being sovereign and independent, have the unquestionable right to judge of its infraction; and that a nullification, by those sovereignties, of all unauthorized acts done under colour of that instrument, is the rightful remedy. ~ ~ Action and care will in time wear down the strongest frame, but guilt and melancholy are poisons of quick dispatch. ~ ~ What is this true meditation? It is to make everything: coughing, swallowing, waving the arms, motion, stillness, words, action, the evil and the good, prosperity and shame, gain and loss, right and wrong, into one single koan ~ ~ My meditation Is my heart's God-Perfection-Satisfaction-song ~ ~ If you can become a mirror you have become a meditator. Meditation is nothing but skill in mirroring. And now, no word moves inside you so there is no distraction. ~ ~ The body sins once, and has done with its sin, for action is a mode of purification. Nothing remains then but the recollection of a pleasure, or the LUXURY of a regret. ~ ~ Worrying about it takes precious time and attention away from your priorities and increases your feelings of dissatisfaction about life ~ ~ worrying can lead to stress. What do we accomplish when we worry? Focus your mind on actions rather than on worrying! Action brings less stress ~ ~ Men imagine that they communicate their virtue or vice only by overt actions, and do not see that virtue or vice emit a breath every moment. ~ ~ There is nothing more fearful than ignorance in action. ~ ~ Nothing diminishes anxiety faster than action. ~ ~ There is little chance that meteorologists can solve the mysteries of weather until they gain an understanding of the mutual attraction of rain and weekends. ~ ~ Awareness without action is worthless. ~ ~ It is in the compelling zest of high adventure and of victory, and in creative action, that man finds his supreme joys ~ ~ The senses have been conditioned by attraction to the pleasant and aversion to the unpleasant: a man should not be ruled by them; they are obstacles in his path. ~ ~ Freedom of speech and freedom of action are meaningless without freedom to think. And there is no freedom of thought without doubt. ~ ~ Action makes more fortune than caution. ~ ~ Excess generally causes reaction, and produces a change in the opposite direction, whether it be in the seasons, or in individuals, or in governments. ~ ~ Behave so the aroma of your actions may enhance the general sweetness of the atmosphere. ~ ~ The ancestor of every action is a thought. ~ ~ Thought is the blossom; language the bud; action the fruit behind it ~ ~ Remember, people will judge you by your actions, not your intentions. You may have a heart of gold -- but so does a hard-boiled egg. ~ ~ Speech is conveniently located midway between thought and action, where it often substitutes for both. ~ ~ It is easy to perform a good action, but not easy to acquire a settled habit of performing such actions. ~ ~ No witchcraft, no enemy action had silenced the rebirth of new life in this stricken world. The people had done it themselves. ~ |
