~ Jealousy is an awkward homage which inferiority renders to merit. ~ ~ It is as certain that many opinions, now general, will be rejected by future ages, as it is that many, once general, are rejected by the present ~ ~ Public opinion, a vulgar, impertinent, anonymous tyrant who deliberately makes life unpleasant for anyone who is not content to be the average man ~ ~ There is a huge difference between journalism and advertising. Journalism aspires to truth. Advertising is regulated for truth. I'll put the accuracy of the average ad in this country up against the average news story any time. ~ ~ What the public wants is the image of passion, not passion itself. ~ ~ We question everything that we put in our garbage. With landfill sites overflowing, and with our limited budget, we try and make use and find uses for everything possible. ~ ~ The size of your accomplishments, the quality of your achievement, will depend very largely on how big a man you see in yourself, what sort of image you get of your possible self, yourself at your best. ~ ~ Our achievements speak for themselves. What we have to keep track of are our failures, discouragements and doubts. We tend to forget the past difficulties, the many false starts, and the painful groping. ~ ~ The worst realities of our age are manufactured realities. It is therefore our task, as creative participants in the universe, to re dream our world. The fact of possessing imagination means that everything can be re dreamed. Each reality can have it ~ ~ The paradox of reality is that no image is as compelling as the one which exists only in the mind's eye. ~ ~ The first step in the risk management process is to acknowledge the reality of risk. Denial is a common tactic that substitutes deliberate ignorance for thoughtful planning. ~ ~ ìNever esteem anything as of advantage to you that will make you break your word or lose your self-respect. ~ ~ Sex got me into trouble from the age of fifteen: I'm hoping that by the time I'm seventy I'll straighten it out. ~ ~ Sex at age ninety is like trying to shoot pool with a rope. ~ ~ Sex, a great and mysterious motive force in human life, has indisputably been a subject of absorbing interest to mankind through the ages. ~ ~ Sex is more exciting on the screen and between the pages than between the sheets. ~ ~ A nation which has forgotten the quality of courage which in the past has been brought to public life is not as likely to insist upon or regard that quality in its chosen leaders today - and in fact we have forgotten. ~ ~ What distinguishes modern art from the art of other ages is criticism. ~ ~ Critics search for ages for the wrong word, which, to give them credit, they eventually find. ~ ~ Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius--and a lot of courage--to move in the opposite direction. ~ ~ Men create real miracles when they use their God-given courage and intelligence ~ ~ There is no such thing as an underestimate of average intelligence. ~ ~ All major religious traditions carry basically the same message, that is love, compassion and forgiveness ... the important thing is they should be part of our daily lives. ~ ~ I believe that religion, generally speaking, has been a curse to mankind - that its modest and greatly overestimated services on the ethical side have been more than overcome by the damage it has done to clear and honest thinkin ~ ~ In the matter of religion, people eagerly fasten their eyes on the difference between their own creed and yours; whilst the charm of the study is in finding the agreements and identities in all the religions of humanity ~ ~ Religion has caused more misery to all of mankind in every stage of human history than any other single idea ~ ~ Religion is the last refuge of human savagery ~ ~ Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise, every expanded prospect ~ ~ Religion is no more possible without prayer than poetry without language, or music without atmosphere ~ ~ Religion points to that area of human experience where in one way or another man comes upon mystery as a summons to pilgrimage. ~ |
