The religion which based on experience, which refuses dogmatic. If there's any religion that would cope the scientific needs it will be Buddhism.... ~ ~ A religion so cheerless, a philosophy so sorrowful, could never have succeeded with the masses of mankind if presented only as a system of metaphysics. Buddhism owed its success to its catholic spirit and its beautiful morality. ~ ~ In Buddhism we have relative truth and absolute truth. ~ ~ If Buddhism preaches nonviolence,why is there so much political violence in Sri Lanka today? ~ ~ The main question I shall probe is the extent to which, and the manner in which, Buddhism, as a religion espoused by Sri Lankans of the late nineteenth and twentieth centuries, has contributed to the current ethnic conflict and collective violence in Sri Lanka. ~ ~ The convent, which belongs to the West as it does to the East, to antiquity as it does to the present time, to BUDDHISM and Muhammadanism as it does to Christianity, is one of the optical devices whereby man gains a glimpse of infinity. ~ ~ There are no mundane things outside of Buddhism, and there is no Buddhism outside of mundane things. ~ ~ There is nothing in Christianity or Buddhism that quite matches the sympathetic unselfishness of an oyster ~ ~ Buddhism holds that everything is in constant flux. Thus the question is whether we are to accept change passively and be swept away by it or whether we are to take the lead and create positive changes on our own initiative. While conservatism and self-protection might be likened to winter, night, and death, the spirit of pioneering and attempting to realize ideals evokes images of spring, morning, and birth. ~ |
