~ The real work of men was hunting meat. The invention of agriculture was a giant step in the wrong direction, leading to serfdom, cities, and empire. From a race of hunters, artists, warriors, and tamers of horses, we degraded ourselves to what we are now: clerks, functionaries, laborers, entertainers, processors of information ~ ~ Wine to me is passion. It is family and friends. It is warmth of heart and generosity of spirit. Wine is art. It is culture. It is the essence of civilization and the art of living. ~ ~ A man, fallen on hard times, sold his art collection but kept his wine cellar. When asked why he did not sell his wine, he said, ìA man can live without art, but not without culture. ~ ~ If you see in any given situation only what everybody else can see, you can be said to be so much a representative of your culture that you are a victim of it. ~ ~ Folk culture workers should fully tap the rich resources in the country and carry forward the fine traditions to strive for the prosperity of folk culture. ~ ~ England or the Great Britain as it is known more popularly is a land which has for long been a home to people belonging to a number of different cultures and races. The tolerance that it has for different people is in itself immense. Today it also holds the position of the financial capital of the world and is also a part of the European Union. It has for long been a colonial power which has ruled over many nations. It is home for the famous Queen Elizabeth and her descendants. With splendid country sides and cold weather, it is a very much sought after destination by the youth of the Asian countries.In spite of their hats being very ugly, Goddam! I love the English. ~ ~ Popular culture seems to represent Native Americans as these mythical beings of the past and the Heritage month activities are trying to break down those stereotypes. People should know that we aren't a monolithic group of people. We are comedians, authors, singers, and our cultures are very much alive today. ~ ~ The visual is sorely undervalued in modern scholarship. Art history has attained only a fraction of the conceptual sophistication of literary criticism. Drunk with self-love, criticism has hugely overestimated the centrality of language to western culture. It has failed to see the electrifying sign language of images. ~ ~ The goal of every culture is to decay through over-civilization; the factors of decadence, -- luxury, skepticism, weariness and superstition, -- are constant. The civilization of one epoch becomes the manure of the next. ~ ~ Culture is the passion for sweetness and light, and (what is more) the passion for making them prevail. ~ ~ You get people talking about being worried about their art, and dances... their culture being wiped out or taken over, and yet these same people are taking advantage of their people to use them as cheap labour. ~ ~ There are two kinds of people I can't stand. Those who are intolerant of other cultures, and the Dutch. ~ ~ Men are rewarded for learning the practice of violence in virtually any sphere of activity by money, admiration, recognition, respect, and the genuflection of others honoring their sacred and proven masculinity. In male culture, police are heroic and so are outlaws; males who enforce standards are heroic and so are those who violate them. ~ ~ While other women's magazines in the market focus on fashion and beauty, we will be the only luxury-lifestyle magazine with an original, provocative approach to fashion, beauty, society, art, culture, travel and entertainment. ~ ~ Temperament lies behind mood; behind will, lies the fate of character. Then behind both, the influence of family the tyranny of culture; and finally the power of climate and environment; and we are free, only to the extent we rise above these. ~ ~ College football is a sport that bears the same relation to education that bullfighting does to agriculture. ~ ~ One succeeds in obtaining an equivalent production at a lower price by improving the arts, trades and agriculture and by developing the physical and moral qualities of workers, farmers and craftsmen. ~ ~ Agriculture is now a motorized food industry, the same thing in its essence as the production of corpses in the gas chambers and the extermination camps, the same thing as blockades and the reduction of countries to famine, the same thing as the manufacture of hydrogen bombs. ~ ~ Before the discovery of agriculture mankind was everywhere so divided, the size of each group being determined by the natural fertility of its locality. ~ ~ The experience of ages has shown that a man who works on the land is purer, nobler, higher, and more moral... That's my idea. ~ ~ We have had a great depression in agriculture, caused mainly by several seasons of bad harvests, and some of our traders have suffered much from a too rapid extension in prosperous years. ~ ~ Some areas that spring to mind are agriculture, democracy building, disaster relief, education, and science and technology. ~ ~ The heritage of the state is very agricultural. Re-energizing agriculture is the key to Indiana's economy. ~ ~ The prostitute is not, as feminists claim, the victim of men but rather their conqueror, an outlaw who controls the sexual channel between nature and culture. ~ ~ Building trust is no longer a matter of creating structures and practices within a single culture. ~ ~ A nation's culture resides in the hearts and in the soul of its people. ~ ~ Altogether national hatred is something peculiar. You will always find it strongest and most violent where there is the lowest degree of culture. ~ ~ Knowing yourself is not so much about introspection and interaction. To know yourself is to realize that you are more than the little self that has been given to you by your history — the pattern that others made — that your true self is, in truth, much larger and includes other people, other cultures, other species even. That life is less about being and more about interbeing. We come to know ourselves, then, through coming to know each other. And the deeper that knowledge, the richer and more creative t
