Truth can stand by itself. ~ ~ Here is my first principle of foreign policy: good government at home ~ ~ Democracy means government by the uneducated, while aristocracy means government by the badly educated. ~ ~ A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government. ~ ~ Democracy means government by discussion, but it is only effective if you can stop people talking. ~ ~ I can find no warrant for such an appropriation in the Constitution, and I do not believe that the power and duty of the General Government ought to be extended to the relief of individual suffering which is in no manner properly related to the public service or benefit ~ ~ If we get a government that reflects more of what this country is really about, we can turn the century -- and the economy -- around. ~ ~ It may be true that the government that governs best governs least. Unfortunately, the same is also true of the government that governs worst. ~ ~ If government were a product, selling it would be illegal ~ ~ The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government ~ ~ A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned -- this is the sum of good government ~ ~ If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government --and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws ~ ~ Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other ~ |
