~ Whoever said money can't buy happiness simply didn't know where to go shopping ~ ~ The secret of happiness is to admire without desiring. ~ ~ Love is the condition in which the happiness of another person is essential to your own. ~ ~ All of our unhappiness comes from our inability to be alone. ~ ~ Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations. ~ ~ Only one thing has to change for us to know happiness in our lives: where we focus our attention. ~ ~ Happiness is the natural flower of duty. ~ ~ There is no excellence without labor. To us the enjoyment of solitude, complete independence, and the beauty of undefined panoramas is absolutely essential to happiness. ~ ~ Happiness is a wine of the rarest vintage, and seems insipid to a vulgar taste. ~ ~ Think excitement, talk excitement, act out excitement, and you are bound to become an excited person. Life will take on a new zest, deeper interest and greater meaning. You can think, talk and act yourself into dullness or into monotony or into unhappiness. By the same process you can build up inspiration, excitement and surging depth of joy. ~ ~ True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well done the zest of creating things new. ~ ~ Although one may fail to find happiness in theatrical life, one never wishes to give it up after having once tasted its fruits. ~ ~ Indeed, man wishes to be happy even when he so lives as to make happiness impossible. ~ ~ Always leave something to wish for; otherwise you will be miserable from your very happiness. ~ ~ Unhappiness does make people look stupid ~ ~ There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them ~ ~ The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what we want most for what we want in the moment ~ ~ Man can only endure a certain degree of unhappiness; what is beyond that either annihilates him or passes by him and leaves him apathetic ~ ~ All happiness or unhappiness solely depends upon the quality of the object to which we are attached by love ~ ~ Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations ~ ~ Given the amount of unjust suffering and unhappiness in the world, I am deeply grateful for, sometimes even perplexed by, how much misery I have been spared. ~ ~ I think writing about unhappiness is probably the source of my popularity, if I have any-after all, most people are unhappy, don't you think? ~ ~ To love is to suffer. To avoid suffering, one must not love. But then, one suffers from not loving. Therefore, to love is to suffer; not to love is to suffer; to suffer is to suffer. To be happy is to love. To be happy, then, is to suffer, but suffering makes one unhappy. Therefore, to be happy, one must love or love to suffer or suffer from too much happiness. ~ ~ Live by this credo: have a little laugh at life and look around you for happiness instead of sadness. Laughter has always brought me out of unhappy situations. ~ ~ I think writing about unhappiness is probably the source of my popularity, if I have any-after all, most people are unhappy, don't you think? ~ ~ There are people who can do all fine and heroic things but one: keep from telling their happiness to the unhappy ~ ~ As this world was not intended to be a state of any great satisfaction or high enjoyment, so neither was it intended to be a mere scene of unhappiness and sorrow. ~ |
