~ The greatest obstacle to discovering the shape of the earth, the continents, and the oceans was not ignorance but the illusion of knowledge ~ ~ Only as a warrior can one withstand the path of knowledge. A warrior cannot complain or regret anything. His life is an endless challenge, and challenges cannot possibly be good or bad. Challenges are simply challenges ~ ~ Extraordinary individuals take one step back and two steps forward with most every challenges and sometimes two steps back to one step forward. They harvest useful lessons and knowledge from what does not work, and they display a remarkable resiliency; and ability to bounce back from adversity. ~ ~ There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants, and a burning desire to possess it. ~ ~ Sharing knowledge is not about giving people something, or getting something from them. That is only valid for information sharing. Sharing knowledge occurs when people are genuinely interested in helping one another develop new capacities for action; it is about creating learning processes. ~ ~ Knowledge is embodied in people gathered in communities and networks. The road to knowledge is via people, conversations, connections and relationships. Knowledge surfaces through dialog, all knowledge is socially mediated and access to knowledge is by connecting to people that know or know who to contact. ~ ~ In today's environment, hoarding knowledge ultimately erodes your power. If you know something very important, the way to get power is by actually sharing it. ~ ~ Often, we are too slow to recognize how much and in what ways we can assist each other through sharing such expertise and knowledge. ~ ~ The fact that I can plant a seed and it becomes a flower, share a bit of knowledge and it becomes another's, smile at someone and receive a smile in return, are to me continual spiritual exercises. ~ ~ When the search for truth is confused with political advocacy, the pursuit of knowledge is reduced to the quest for power. ~ ~ Universities are full of knowledge; the freshmen bring a little in and the seniors take none away, and knowledge accumulates. ~ ~ Pain and foolishness lead to great bliss and complete knowledge, for Eternal Wisdom created nothing under the sun in vain. ~ ~ The Roots of Violence: Wealth without work, Pleasure without conscience, Knowledge without character, Commerce without morality, Science without humanity, Worship without sacrifice, Politics without principles ~ ~ I wash my hands of those who imagine chattering to be knowledge, silence to be ignorance, and affection to be art. ~ ~ It is in moments of illness that we are compelled to recognize that we live not alone but chained to a creature of a different kingdom, whole worlds apart, who has no knowledge of us and by whom it is impossible to make ourselves understood: our body. ~ ~ Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge we make promise only; pain we obey. ~ ~ It is the province of knowledge to speak, and it is the privilege of wisdom to listen. ~ ~ Education is a private matter between the person and the world of knowledge and experience, and has little to do with school or college. ~ ~ Science is organized knowledge. Wisdom is organized life. ~ ~ Science investigates religion interprets. Science gives man knowledge which is power religion gives man wisdom which is control ~ ~ Science is the father of knowledge, but opinion breeds ignorance ~ ~ There are in fact two things, science and opinion; the former begets knowledge, the latter ignorance. ~ ~ The good life is inspired by love and guided by knowledge. ~ ~ In my experience, getting rich takes focus, courage, knowledge, expertise, 100 percent of your effort, a never-give-up attitude and of course a rich mind-set. ~ ~ The degree of one's emotions varies inversely with one's knowledge of the facts. ~ ~ Knowledge is the only elegance. ~ ~ Not many appreciate the ultimate power and potential usefulness of basic knowledge accumulated by obscure, unseen investigators who, in a lifetime of intensive study, may never see any practical use for their findings but who go on seeking answers to the unknown without thought of financial or practical gain ~ ~ I am sure it is a great mistake always to know enough to go in when it rains.† One may keep snug and dry by such knowledge, but one misses a world of loveliness. ~ ~ If we lose wilderness, we lose forever the knowledge of what the world was and what it might, with understanding and loving husbandry, yet become. ~ ~ Beauty is composed of many things and never stands alone. It is part of horizons, blue in the distance, great primeval silences, knowledge of all things of the earth... It is so fragile it can be destroyed by a sound or thought. It may be infinitesimally small or encompass the universe itself. It comes in a swift conception wherever nature has not been disturbed. ~ |
