These two types of thought cannot coexist if you want to share in the abundance that surrounds us all. ~ ~ Too many people are thinking of security instead of opportunity. They seem to be more afraid of life than death ~ ~ Security is not the meaning of my life. Great opportunities are worth the risks. ~ ~ Monotony is the law of nature. Look at the monotonous manner in which the sun rises. The monotony of necessary occupation is exhilarating and life giving. ~ ~ One must marry one's feelings to one's beliefs and ideas. That is probably the only way to achieve a measure of harmony in one's life ~ ~ Have courage for the great sorrows of life and patience for the small ones; and when you have laboriously accomplished your daily task, go to sleep in peace. That to secure these rights, Governments ~ ~ An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow citizens . . . There has never been a moment of my life in which I should have relinquished for it the enjoyments of my family, my farm, my friends and books. ~ ~ Our government has become too responsive to trivial or ephemeral concerns, often at the expense of more important concerns or an erosion of our liberty, and it has made policy priorities more dependent on where TV journalists happen to point their cameras.... As a nation we have lost our sense of tragedy, a recognition that bad things happen to good people. A nation that expects the government to prevent churches from burning, to control the price of bread or gasoline, to secure every job, and to find some villain for every dramatic accident, risks an even larger loss of life and liberty. ~ ~ Applause, mingled with boos and hisses, is about all that the average voter is able or willing to contribute to public life ~ ~ Part of the secret of success in life is to eat what you like and let the food fight it out inside. ~ ~ Life goes faster on protein ~ ~ Life expectancy would grow by leaps and bounds if green vegetables smelled as good as bacon. ~ ~ We could say that meditation doesn't have a reason or doesn't have a purpose. In this respect it's unlike almost all other things we do except perhaps making music and dancing. When we make music we don't do it in order to reach a certain point, such as the end of the composition. If that were the purpose of music then obviously the fastest players would be the best. Also, when we are dancing we are not aiming to arrive at a particular place on the floor as in a journey. When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we
play music the playing itself is the point. And exactly the same thing is true in meditation. Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment ~ |
