~ Acceptance is not submission; it is acknowledgement of the facts of a situation. Then deciding what you're going to do about it. ~ ~ There are sins of omission as well as those of commission. ~ ~ When I first became interested in photography, I thought it was the whole cheese. My idea was to have it recognized as one of the fine arts. Today I don't give a hoot in hell about that. The mission of photography is to explain man to man and each man to himself ~ ~ It is impossible to calculate the moral mischief, if I may so express it, that mental lying has produced in society. When a man has so far corrupted and prostituted the chastity of his mind as to subscribe his professional belief to things he does not believe he has prepared himself for the commission of every other crime. ~ ~ With respect to the two words "general welfare," I have always regarded them as qualified by the detail of powers connected with them. To take them in a literal and unlimited sense would be a metamorphosis of the Constitution into a character which there is a host of proofs was not contemplated by its creators. If the words obtained so readily a place in the "Articles of Confederation," and received so little notice in their admission into the present Constitution, and retained for so long a time a silent place in both, the fairest explanation is, that the words, in the alternative of meaning nothing or meaning everything, had the former meaning taken for granted ~ ~ The greatest calamity which could befall us would be submission to a government of unlimited powers ~ ~ It has been objected also against a bill of rights, that, by enumerating particular exceptions to the grant of power, it would disparage those rights which were not placed in that enumeration, and it might follow by implication, that those rights which were not singled out, were intended to be assigned into the hands of the general government, and were consequently insecure. This is one of the most plausible arguments I have ever heard urged against the admission of a bill of rights into this system; but, I conceive, that may be guarded against. I have attempted it, as gentlemen may see by turning to the last clause of the 4th resolution ~ ~ Better the occasional faults of a government that lives in a spirit of charity than the consistent omissions of a government frozen in the ice of its own indifference ~ ~ Guilt, though it may attain temporal splendor, can never confer real happiness; the evil consequences of our crimes long survive their commission, and, like the ghosts of the murdered, forever haunt the steps of the malefactor; while the paths of virtue, though seldom those of worldly greatness, are always those of pleasantness and peace. ~ ~ Placing one foot in front of the other, I've climbed to higher lengths. Reaching beyond my own limitations, to show my inner strength. No obstacle too hard, for this warrior to overcome. I'm just a man on a mission, to prove my disability hasn't won. ~ ~ When the boys come into my yard for leave to gather horse-chestnuts, I own I enter into nature's game, and affect to grant the permission reluctantly, fearing that any moment they will find out the imposture of that showy chaff. But this tenderness is quite unnecessary; the enchantments are laid on very thick. Their young life is thatched with them. Bare and grim to tears is the lot of the children in the hovel I saw yesterday; yet not the less they hang it round with frippery romance, like the children of the happiest fortune. ~ ~ To a person in love, the value of the individual is intuitively known.
Love needs no logic for its mission ~ ~ To a person in love, the value of the individual is intuitively known. Love needs no logic for its mission. ~ ~ The people who shape our lives and our cultures have the ability to communicate a vision or a quest or a joy or a mission. ~ ~ A conference is just an admission that you want somebody to join you in your troubles. ~ ~ A man with money is no match against a man on a mission. ~ ~ Life is God's joke on us. It's our mission to figure out the punch line. ~ ~ To find your mission in life is to discover the intersection between your heart's deep gladness and the world's deep hunger. ~ ~ Subsidies entail politiciansí taking the citizenís paycheck and then using it to buy his submission. ~ ~ My job, my mission, the reason I have been put on this planet, is to save wildlife. ~ ~ In the 21st century, I believe the mission of the United Nations will be defined by a new, more profound awareness of the sanctity and dignity of every human life, regardless of race or religion. ~ ~ It is the awareness of unfulfilled desires which gives a nation the feeling that it has a mission and a destiny. ~ ~ The powers, aspirations, and mission of man are such as to raise the study of his origin and nature, inevitably and by the very necessity of the case, from the mere physiological to the psychological stage of scientific operations. ~ ~ Adolescence is society's permission slip for combining physical maturity with psychological irresponsibility. ~ ~ All of these reissues were not authorized by me, I do not endorse them, the live album was put out without my permission, and I've not seen a dime at this point, either. ~ ~ America will never seek a permission slip to defend the security of our people. ~ ~ As we let our light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence actually liberates others. ~ ~ Because the worst of all worlds is when you pretend like you have an immigration policy, you make coming into the United States without our permission illegal, and then you actually don't enforce it. ~ ~ Dream and give yourself permission to envision a You that you choose to be. ~ ~ During my time we had two chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, at different times of course, on the bridge, both of whom asked my permission to sit on the captain's chair. ~ |
