~ We need timeless principles to steer by in running our organizations and building our personal careers. We need high standards . . . the ethics of excellence. ~ ~ Leadership is a noble calling. In addtion to meeting well-defined strategic objectives, leaders must also help their organizations make meaningful contributions to social issues, economic growth, and political stability. That's why effective organizational leadership plays a vital role in shaping our world. ~ ~ The quality of an organization can never exceed the quality of the minds that make it up. ~ ~ The only things that evolve by themselves in an organization are disorder, friction, and malperformance ~ ~ Once an organization loses its spirit of pioneering and rests on its early work, its progress stops. ~ ~ While democracy must have its organizations and controls, its vital breath is individual liberty ~ ~ If you want to understand your government, don't begin by reading the Constitution. It conveys precious little of the flavor of today's statecraft. Instead, read selected portions of the Washington telephone directory containing listings for all the organizations with titles beginning with the word National ~ ~ The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual. ~ ~ But when we get enough people who don't care, and who don't accept personal responsibility for high ethical standards, our organization gets the "M" disease. Mediocrity. Anybody in the place can be a carrier. By the same token, every individual can carry the cure: the ethics of excellence. ~ ~ Innovation by definition will not be accepted at first. It takes repeated attempts, endless demonstrations, monotonous rehearsals before innovation can be accepted and internalized by an organization. This requires 'courageous patience'. ~ ~ Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. ~ ~ One of the many reasons for the bewildering and tragic character of human existence is the fact that social organization is at once necessary and fatal. Men are forever creating such organizations for their own convenience and forever finding themselves the victims of their home-made monsters. ~ ~ Every company has two organizational structures: The formal one is written on the charts; the other is the everyday relationship of the men and women in the organization. ~ ~ In any great organization it is far, far safer to be wrong with the majority than to be right alone. ~ ~ The person who figures out how to harness the collective genius of his or her organization is going to blow the competition away. ~ ~ Albrecht's Law - Intelligent people, when assembled into an organization, will tend toward collective stupidity. ~ ~ Brilliance is typically the act of an individual, but incredible stupidity can usually be traced to an organization. ~ ~ Atheism is a non-prophet organization ~ ~ Atheism is a non-prophet organization ~ ~ The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual ~ ~ It isn't the incompetent who destroys an organization. That hope is the organization of spirited people who will fight for the freedom and preservation of the wilderness. ~ ~ But because our organization has grown so much and in so many different ways, the delegation process places responsibility and authority on the shoulders of people you can watch grow and watch the way they treat others. ~ ~ Under current law volunteers who are not working with an official nonprofit organization are not covered by the Volunteer Protection Act. Therefore, there are absolutely no legal protections for the average American who wishes to volunteer. ~ ~ I have very little hope that any permission can be gained for your organization. However, I shall place it in a special folder with similar applications and raise the question from time to time with such people here as may have authority. ~ ~ In the successful organization, no detail is too small to escape close attention. ~ |
