~ Passions often produce their contraries: avarice sometimes leads to prodigality, and prodigality to avarice; we are often obstinate through weakness and daring though timidity. ~ ~ Nobody is quite so blase and sophisticated as a boy of nineteen who is just recovering from a baby grand passion. ~ ~ These beings have no other profession than to cultivate the idea of beauty in their person, to satisfy their passions, to feel and to think. ~ ~ As human beings we all want to be happy and free from misery we have learned that the key to happiness is inner peace. The greatest obstacles to inner peace are disturbing emotions such as anger, attachment, fear and suspicion, while love and compassion and a sense of universal responsibility are the sources of peace and happiness. ~ ~ Prejudice and passion and suspicion are more dangerous than the incitement of self-interest or the most stubborn adherence to real differences of opinion regarding rights. ~ ~ A populace never rebels from passion for attack, but from impatience of suffering. ~ ~ Pain and sorrow and misery have a right to our assistance: compassion puts us in mind of the debt, and that we owe it to ourselves as well as to the distressed. ~ ~ It is the passion that is in a kiss that gives to it its sweetness; it is the affection in a kiss that sanctifies it. ~ ~ Anyone can be passionate, but it takes real lovers to be silly. ~ ~ Life without passion would be a dull wasteland of neutrality, cut off and isolated from the richness of life itself. ~ ~ The heart that can no longer love passionately, must with fury hate. ~ ~ Passion costs me too much to bestow it on every trifle. ~ ~ Passion makes idiots of the cleverest men, and makes the biggest idiots clever. ~ ~ How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all of these. ~ ~ Compassion is the ultimate and most meaningful embodiment of emotional maturity. It is through compassion that a person achieves the highest peak and the deepest reach in his or her search for self-fulfillment. ~ ~ My motivation for running for Senate was not for the stature of being a senator, but because I wanted to make a difference on issues I feel passionate about. ~ ~ The passions possess a certain injustice and self interest which makes it dangerous to follow them, and in reality we should distrust them even when they appear most trustworthy. ~ ~ I think my writing was innate. Being so painfully shy and introverted as a child, as well as an extreme thinker with a hyperactive imagination, it seems befitting. It became such a powerful passion early on in life. ~ ~ Tenderness is the repose of Passion. ~ ~ Woman is closer to angels than man because she knows how to mingle an infinite tenderness with the most absolute compassion. ~ ~ And although I like to relax and have fun, my passion is my work. ~ ~ Faith is the highest passion in a human being. Many in every generation may not come that far, but none comes further. ~ ~ Nothing separates the generations more than music. By the time a child is eight or nine, he has developed a passion for his own music that is even stronger than his passions for procrastination and weird clothes. ~ ~ In middle age we are apt to reach the horrifying conclusion that all sorrow, all pain, all passionate regret and loss and bitter disillusionment are self-made. ~ ~ It is the soul's duty to be loyal to its own desires. It must abandon itself to its master passion. ~ ~ A good motivation is what is needed: compassion without dogmatism, without complicated philosophy; just understanding that others are human brothers and sisters and respecting their human rights and dignities. That we humans can help each other is one of our unique human capacities. ~ ~ We just decided that we were going to play the game with some passion and have fun. So there was a little tenacity and intensity, and that was the objective. ~ ~ WOMEN preserve the culture of this country with greater tenacity and faith. They keep men on the moral path and inspire them to follow spiritual discipline. Their hearts are tender and full of compassion for the hungry and the distressed. That is why in this land, women are adored and revered. ~ ~ The true end of tragedy is to purify the passions. ~ ~ Love would never be a promise of a rose garden unless it is showered with light of faith, water of sincerity and air of passion. ~ |
