Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation. ~ ~ Computers are magnificent tools for the realization of our dreams, but no machine can replace the human spark of spirit, compassion, love, and understanding. ~ ~ Be still when you have nothing to say; when genuine passion moves you, say what you've got to say, and say it hot. ~ ~ Our sorrows and wounds are healed only when we touch them with compassion. ~ ~ Heroism on command, senseless violence, and all the loathsome nonsense that goes by the name of patriotism -how passionately I hate them! ~ ~ It is foolish to pretend that one is fully recovered from a disappointed passion. The hardest part of any big project is to begin. We have begun. We are underway. We have a passion. We want to make a difference ~ ~ Compassion is the use of public funds to buy votes ~ ~ Spring is the season of gaiety, and winter of terror; in spring the heart of tranquility dances to the melody of the groves, and the eye of benevolence sparkles at the sight of happiness and plenty: in winter, compassion melts at universal calamity, and the tear of softness starts at the wailing of hunger and the cries of the creation in distress ~ ~ There are no idealists in the plant world and no compassion. The rose and the morning glory know no mercy. Bindweed, the morning glory, will quickly choke its competitors to death, and the fencerow rose will just as quietly crowd out any other plant that tried to share its roothold. Idealism and mercy are human terms and human concepts. ~ ~ For me and for thousands with similar inclinations, the most important passion of life is the overpowering desire to escape periodically from the clutches of a mechanistic civilization. To us the enjoyment of solitude, complete independence, and the beauty of undefined panoramas is absolutely essential to happiness. ~ ~ Homo sapiens is the species that invents symbols in which to invest passion and authority, then forgets that symbols are inventions. ~ ~ The whole idea of compassion is based on a keen awareness of the interdependence of all these living beings, which are all part of one another, and all involved in one another. ~ ~ These things will destroy the human race: politics without principle, progress without compassion, wealth without work, learning without silence, religion without fearlessness and worship without awareness ~ ~ Service broadens your vision widens your awareness. Deepens your compassion. ~ ~ By whatever means it is accomplished, the prime business of a play is to arouse the passions of its audience so that by the route of passion may be opened up new relationships between a man and men, and between men and Man. Drama is akin to the other ~ ~ There is no greatness without a passion to be great, whether it's the aspiration of an athlete or an artist, a scientist, a parent, or a businessperson. ~ ~ Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. ~ ~ If I were to wish for anything, I should not wish for wealth and power, but for the passionate sense of potential -- for the eye which, ever young and ardent, sees the possible. Pleasure disappoints; possibility never. ~ ~ Happiness or satisfaction consists only in the enjoyment of those objects which are by nature suited to our several particular appetites, passions, and affections. ~ ~ My passion and great enjoyment for architecture, and the reason the older I get the more I enjoy it, is because I believe we - architects - can effect the quality of life of the people. ~ ~ Nurture your dreams, Discover your passion, Embrace your visions, Free your spirit, Share your love, Love your soul. ~ ~ Animals often strike us as passionate machines. ~ ~ Until mankind can extend the circle of his compassion to include all living things, he will never, himself, know peace. ~ ~ Human nature, if it healthy, demands excitement; and if it does not obtain its thrilling excitement in the right way, it will seek it in the wrong. God never makes bloodless stoics; He makes no passionless saints. ~ |
