~ I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite. ~ ~ Believing with you that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State ~ ~ Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth. ~ ~ As we grow as unique persons, we learn to respect the uniqueness of others. ~ ~ Anger may be foolish and obsurd, and one may be irritated when in the wrong; but a man never feels outraged unless in some respect he is at bottom right. ~ ~ They cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them. ~ ~ Virtue has never been as respectable as money ~ ~ True humility is intelligent self respect which keeps us from thinking too highly or too meanly of ourselves. It makes us modest by reminding us how far we have come short of what we can be.
~ ~ I respect faith, but doubt is what gets you an education.
~ ~ I respect faith, but doubt is what gets you an education. ~ ~ If you want to be respected, you must respect yourself. ~ ~ Self-respect is the fruit of discipline; the sense of dignity grows with the ability to say no to oneself. ~ ~ Self-respect: The secure feeling that no one, as yet, is suspicious. ~ ~ We must respect the other fellow's religion, but only in the sense and to the extent that we respect his theory that his wife is beautiful and his children smart. ~ ~ The willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life is the source from which self-respect springs. ~ ~ The willingness to accept responsibility for one's own life is the source from which self-respect springs. ~ ~ Genius is entitled to respect only when it promotes the peace and improves the happiness of mankind ~ ~ I understand the dignity of a life, but our right is much more dignified than life, our freedom, and our self-respect. ~ ~ When men and women are able to respect and accept their differences then love has a chance to blossom. ~ ~ The chemist who can extract from his heart's elements compassion, respect, longing, patience, regret, surprise, and forgiveness and compound them into one can create that atom which is called love ~ ~ I argue very well. In this respect it's unlike almost all other things we do except perhaps making music and dancing. When we make music we don't do it in order to reach a certain point, such as the end of the composition. If that were the purpose of music then obviously the fastest players would be the best. Also, when we are dancing we are not aiming to arrive at a particular place on the floor as in a journey. When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we
play music the playing itself is the point. And exactly the same thing is true in meditation. Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment ~ ~ God respects me when I work; but God loves me when I sing. ~ ~ Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth. ~ ~ I believe in a lively disrespect for most forms of authority. ~ ~ Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority. ~ |
