This was not an act of terrorism, but it was an act of war.
Fighting terrorism is like being a goalkeeper. You can make a hundred brilliant saves but the only shot that people remember is the one that gets past you.
A people who's primary aims are driving, shopping, and television are subject to terrorism at any time.
Terrorism is not an expression of rage. Terrorism is a political weapon. Remove a government's facade of infallibility, and you remove its people's faith.
In an interconnected world, the defeat of international terrorism – and most importantly, the prevention of these terrorist organizations from obtaining weapons of mass destruction -- will require the cooperation of many nations. We must always reserve the right to strike unilaterally at terrorists wherever they may exist. But we should know that our success in doing so is enhanced by engaging our allies so that we receive the crucial diplomatic, military, intelligence, and financial support that can lighten our load and add legitimacy to our actions. This means talking to our friends and, at times, even our enemies.
Terrorism, like viruses, is everywhere. There is a global perfusion of terrorism, which accompanies any system of domination as though it were its shadow, ready to activate itself anywhere, like a double agent.
The big threat to America is the way we react to terrorism by throwing away what everybody values about our country--a commitment to human rights. America is a great nation because we are a good nation. When we stop being a good nation, we stop being great.
Terrorism has replaced Communism as the rationale for the militarization of the country [America], for military adventures abroad, and for the suppression of civil liberties at home. It serves the same purpose, serving to create hysteria.
The terrible thing about terrorism is that ultimately it destroys those who practise it. Slowly but surely, as they try to extinguish life in others, the light within them dies.
Wanton killing of innocent civilians is terrorism, not a war against terrorism.
We do not create terrorism by fighting the terrorists. We invite terrorism by ignoring them.
Terrorism is the price of empire. If you do not wish to pay the price, you must give up the empire.
If inciting people to do that [9/11] is terrorism, and if killing those who kill our sons is terrorism, then let history be witness that we are terrorists.
Terrorism is the tactic of demanding the impossible, and demanding it at gunpoint.
I think what's going on in Guantanamo Bay and other places is a disgrace to the U.S.A. I wouldn't say it's the cause of terrorism, but it has given impetus and excuses to potential terrorists to lash out at our country and justify their despicable acts.
We will stand up for our friends in the world. And one of the most important friends is the State of Israel. My administration will be steadfast in support Israel against terrorism and violence, and in seeking the peace for which all Israelis pray.
Climate change is the most severe problem that we are facing today, more serious even than the threat of terrorism.
The threat of terrorism is great and with today's porous borders, someone could bring a biological weapon into our country or sneak a dirty bomb across unmanned portions of our borders
The nexus between terrorism and nuclear weapons, or even nuclear material, is obviously a current concern
The strategy in place today respects neither human rights nor the Geneva Conventions. The current administration in Washington is trying to combat terrorism outside legal means, the rule of law.
I think people throughout the world will be relieved about this news and we congratulate the United States on ending the reign of terror of Osama Bin Laden himself.
Of course it does not mean that we should not be vigilant against terrorism it does not mean the work of all those involved in trying to prevent terrorism is over, but it is a very important step.
The difference between the revolutionary and the terrorist lies in the reason for which each fights. For whoever stands by a just cause and fights for the freedom and liberation of his land from the invaders, the settlers and the colonialists cannot possibly be called terrorist, otherwise the American people in their struggle for liberation from the British colonialists would have been terrorists; the European resistance against the Nazis would be terrorism, the struggle of the Asian, African and Latin American peoples would also be terrorism, and many of you who are in this Assembly hall were considered terrorists.
Terrorism: deadly violence against humans and other living things. Usually conducted by government against its own people."
In a world of inhumanity, war and terrorism, American citizenship is a very precious possession.
