~ Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms ~ ~ If any man tells you he loves America, yet hates labor, he is a liar. If any man tells you he trusts America, yet fears labor, he is a fool. ~ ~ Each betrayal begins with trust. ~ ~ Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery: if riches increase, set not your heart upon them. ~ ~ We are all born brave, trusting and greedy, and most of us remain greedy. ~ ~ It is better to suffer wrong than to do it, and happier to be sometimes cheated than not to trust. ~ ~ There is a higher form of patriotism than nationalism, and that higher form is not limited by the boundaries of one's country; but by a duty to mankind to safeguard the trust of civilization. ~ ~ Creativity comes from trust. Trust your instincts. And never hope more than you work. ~ ~ It is better to suffer wrong than to do it, and happier to be sometimes cheated than not to trust. ~ ~ We are all selfish and I no more trust myself than others with a good motive. ~ ~ He who wants to persuade should put his trust not in the right argument, but in the right word. The power of sound has always been greater than the power of sense ~ ~ He'd undertake to prove, by force Of argument, a man's no horse. He'd prove a buzzard is no fowl, And that a Lord may be an owl, A calf an Alderman, a goose a Justice, And rooks, Committee-men or Trustees. ~ ~ A secret of abundance is to stop focussing on what you do not have and shift your consciousness to an appreciation for all that you do have No limit people are so in charge that theycan trust their instincts, be childlike, be creative and do anything that makes sense to them. ~ ~ To be a philosopher is not merely to have subtle thoughts, nor even to found a school, but to so love wisdom as to live according to its dictates a life of simplicity, independence, magnanimity and trust ~ ~ I also realized that the philosophers, far from ridding me of my vain doubts, only multiplied the doubts that tormented me and failed to remove any one of them. So I chose another guide and said, Let me follow the Inner Light; it will not lead me so far astray as others have done, or if it does it will be my own fault, and I shall not go so far wrong if I follow my own illusions as if I trusted to their deceits ~ ~ The biggest lesson I learned from Vietnam is not to trust our own government statements. I had no idea until then that you could not rely on them. ~ ~ Our cause, then, must be intrusted to, and conducted by, its own undoubted friends-those whose hands are free, whose hearts are in the work-who do care for the result. Two years ago the Republicans of the nation mustered over thirteen hundred thousand strong. We did this under the single impulse of resistance to a common danger, with every external circumstance against us. Of strange, discordant, and even, hostile elements, we gathered from the four winds, and formed and fought the battle through, under the constant hot fire of a disciplined, proud, and pampered enemy. Did we brave all then to falter now?-now when that same enemy is wavering, dissevered, and belligerent? The result is not doubtful. We shall not fail-if we stand firm, we shall not fail. Wise councils may accelerate or mistakes delay it, but, sooner or later, the victory is sure to come ~ ~ A little government and a little luck are necessary in life, but only a fool trusts either of them ~ ~ All men having power ought to be distrusted to a certain degree ~ ~ Government is an unnecessary evil. Cultivate regular periods of silence and meditation. The best time to build judgment is in solitude, when you can think out things for yourself without the probability of interruption ~ ~ Every sale has five basic obstacles: no need, no money, no hurry, no desire, no trust. ~ ~ Therefore trust to thy heart, and to what the world calls illusions. ~ ~ The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor the joy of companionship; it is the spiritual inspiration that comes to one when he discovers that someone believes in him and is willing to trust him with his friendship. ~ ~ Romance is about building trust, affection, and harmony between two caring people. ~ ~ Yesterday I saw a child wearing a T-shirt that said, "If you love me, don't feed me junk food." I was delighted to see this, but I also know how difficult it can be to feed our children well, particularly when the foods that are most convenient and the most heavily advertised are often the ones we should avoid. Joel Fuhrman's new book is a blessing, because it makes it so much easier. It is excellent, and full of clarity, wisdom, and guidance you can trust. It can indeed give you the power to shape your child's health destiny ~ ~ Worry not about the possible troubles of the future; for if they come, you are but anticipating and adding to their weight; and if they do not come, your worry is useless; and in either case it is weak and in vain, and a distrust of God's providence. ~ ~ Having thus chosen our course, without guile and with pure purpose, let us renew our trust in God, and go forward without fear and with manly hearts. ~ |
