Happiness or unhappiness is often a matter of choice.
Drunkenness is temporary suicide: the happiness that it brings is merely negative, a momentary cessation of unhappiness
Unhappiness is not knowing what we want and killing ourselves to get it.
Unhappiness does make people look stupid
We are all prone to the malady of the introvert who, with the manifold spectacle of the world spread out before him, turns away and gazes only upon the emptiness within. But let us not imagine there is anything grand about the introvert's unhappiness.
People exaggerate both happiness and unhappiness; we are never so fortunate nor so unfortunate as people say we are.
If a philosophy is to bring happiness it should be inspired by kindly
feelings. Marx pretended that he wanted the happiness of the proletariat; what he really wanted was the unhappiness of the bourgeois.
I am more and more convinced that our happiness or our unhappiness depends far more on the way we meet the events of life than on the nature of those events themselves.
They need to worry and betray time with urgencies false and otherwise, purely anxious and whiny, their souls really won't be at peace unless they can latch on to an established and proven worry and having once found it they assume facial expressions to fit and go with it, which is, you see, unhappiness, and all the time it all flies by them and they know it and that too worries them no end
All of our unhappiness comes from our inability to be alone.
Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations.
Think excitement, talk excitement, act out excitement, and you are bound to become an excited person. Life will take on a new zest, deeper interest and greater meaning. You can think, talk and act yourself into dullness or into monotony or into unhappiness. By the same process you can build up inspiration, excitement and surging depth of joy.
Unhappiness does make people look stupid
There is only one cause of unhappiness: the false beliefs you have in your head, beliefs so widespread, so commonly held, that it never occurs to you to question them
The chief cause of failure and unhappiness is trading what we want most for what we want in the moment
Man can only endure a certain degree of unhappiness; what is beyond that either annihilates him or passes by him and leaves him apathetic
All happiness or unhappiness solely depends upon the quality of the object to which we are attached by love
Unhappiness is best defined as the difference between our talents and our expectations
Given the amount of unjust suffering and unhappiness in the world, I am deeply grateful for, sometimes even perplexed by, how much misery I have been spared.
I think writing about unhappiness is probably the source of my popularity, if I have any-after all, most people are unhappy, don't you think?

As this world was not intended to be a state of any great satisfaction or high enjoyment, so neither was it intended to be a mere scene of unhappiness and sorrow.
Given the amount of unjust suffering and unhappiness in the world, I am deeply grateful for, sometimes even perplexed by, how much misery I have been spared.
Man's unhappiness, as I construe, comes of his greatness; it is because there is an Infinite in him, which with all his cunning he cannot quite bury under the Finite.
Man can only endure a certain degree of unhappiness; what is beyond that either annihilates him or passes by him and leaves him apathetic
The human being who lives only for himself finally reaps nothing but unhappiness. Selfishness corrodes. Unselfishness ennobles, satisfies. Don't put off the joy derivable from doing helpful, kindly things for others.
Happiness is mental harmony; unhappiness is mental inharmony
All of our unhappiness comes from our inability to be alone.

Before I start painting I have a slightly ambiguous feeling: happiness is a special excitement because unhappiness is always possible a moment later. That’s like life: it is so precious because death is always beckoning.
