~ Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine. ~ ~ Surely the mischief of hypocrisy can never be enough inveighed against. When religion is in request, it is the chief malady of the church, and numbers die of it; though because it is a subtle and inward evil, it be little perceived. It is to be feared there are many sick of it, that look well and comely in God's outward worship, and they may pass well in good weather, in times of peace; but days of adversity are days of trial. ~ ~ It is best to read the weather forecast before praying for rain. ~ ~ Climate is what we expect, weather is what we get. ~ ~ There is little chance that meteorologists can solve the mysteries of weather until they gain an understanding of the mutual attraction of rain and weekends. ~ ~ The moral sense reappears today with the same morning newness that has been from of old the fountain of beauty and strength. You say there is no religion now. 'Tis like saying in rainy weather, There is no sun, when at that moment we are witnessing one of its superlative effects. ~ ~ Faith is not a delicate flower which would wither away under the slightest stormy weather ~ ~ The only faith that wears well and holds its color in all weathers, is that which is woven of conviction and set with the sharp mordant of experience ~ ~ Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero, he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor, by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world. ~ ~ Integrity is not a conditional word. It doesn't blow in the wind or change with the weather. It is your inner image of yourself, and if you look in there and see a man who won't cheat, then you know he never will. ~ ~ For there is no friend like a sister in calm or stormy weather. ~ ~ Weather means more when you have a garden. There's nothing like listening to a shower and thinking how it is soaking in around your green beans. ~ ~ There's a plane flying over me and I'm looking forward to being able to relax and not worry about the weather or boat speed. ~ ~ Sunshine is delicious, rain is refreshing, wind braces us up, snow is exhilarating; there is really no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather. ~ ~ The weather-cock on the church spire, though made of iron, would soon be broken by the storm-wind if it ... did not understand the noble art of turning to every wind. ~ ~ Iron rusts from disuse; stagnant water loses its purity and in cold weather becomes frozen; even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind ~ ~ Some are weather-wise, some are otherwise ~ ~ It is one of the secrets of Nature in its mood of mockery that fine weather lays heavier weight on the mind and hearts of the depressed and the inwardly tormented than does a really bad day with dark rain sniveling continuously and sympathetically from a dirty sky ~ ~ For the man sound in body and serene of mind there is no such thing as bad weather; every day has its beauty, and storms which whip the blood do but make it pulse more vigorously ~ ~ Any proverbs about weather are doubly true during a storm. ~ ~ What dreadful hot weather we have!† It keeps me in a continual state of inelegance ~ ~ Perfect winter weather is a great caffeine, while perfect summer weather is the best sedative. ~ ~ A course never quite looks the same way twice. The combinations of weather, season, light, feelings and thoughts that you find there are ever-changing. ~ ~ All we need is a meteorologist who has once been soaked to the skin without ill effect. No one can write knowingly of the weather who walks bent over on wet days.† ~ ~ An inexhaustible good nature is one of the most precious gifts of heaven, spreading itself like oil over the troubled sea of thought, and keeping the mind smooth and equable in the roughest weather. ~ ~ Change of weather is the discourse of fools. ~ ~ Diplomats are useful only in fair weather. As soon as it rains they drown in every drop ~ ~ Every man has a rainy corner of his life whence comes foul weather which follows him ~ ~ For there is no friend like a sister in calm or stormy weather; To cheer one on the tedious way, to fetch one if one goes astray, to lift one if one totters down, to strengthen whilst one stands. ~ ~ I do not find the supposed scientific consensus among my colleagues. Curiously, it is a feature of man-made global warming that every fact confirms it: rising temperatures or decreasing temperatures. No matter what the weather, some model of global warming offers a watertight explanation. ~ |
