It robs people of self-esteem. ~ ~ I inherited that calm from my father, who was a farmer. You sow, you wait for good or bad weather, you harvest, but working is something you always need to do.† ~ ~ If enough people think of a thing and work hard enough at it, I guess it's pretty nearly bound to happen, wind and weather permitting. ~ ~ Nature is so powerful, so strong. It takes you to a place within yourself.† ~ ~ What was so good about it was that the set that they originally built stayed there, and weathered over the five years. It got five summers and five winters of weather. It became more and more authentic as we worked in it, and they added bits to it.† ~ ~ Wilderness is a continuous stretch of county preserved in its natural state, open to lawful hunting and fishing, big enough to absorb a two weeksí pack trip, and kept devoid of roads, artificial trails, cottages, or other works of man. ~ ~ Natural species are the library from which genetic engineers can work. ~ ~ Albert Einstein, who discovered that a tiny amount of mass is equal to a huge amount of energy, which explains why, as Einstein himself so eloquently put it in a famous 1939 speech to the Physics Department at Princeton, You have to exercise for a week to work off the thigh fat from a single Snickers. ~ ~ The eye of the master will do more work than both his hands. ~ ~ Living up to ideals is like doing everyday work with your Sunday clothes on. ~ ~ I much prefer working with kids whose life could be completely upended by a reading of a book over a weekend. You give them a book to read - they go home and come back a changed person. And that is so much more interesting and exciting. ~ ~ Authority doesn't work without prestige, or prestige without distance ~ ~ Put two or three men in positions of conflicting authority. This will force them to work at loggerheads, allowing you to be the ultimate arbiter. ~ ~ But I was amazed at how organized the Palestinian election authority was, how competent they were in setting up their polling places and the poll workers they had. ~ ~ I am a liberated woman.
