Enemy Quotes
I saw all the snares that the enemy spreads over the whole world and I said, groaning, "What can get through such snares?" Then I heard a voice saying to me, "Humility."
Saint Anthony the Great

One who reveals your faults to you like a mirror is your true friend, and one who flatters you and covers up your faults is your enemy.

Our enemy is the enemy of my grandfather, Muhammad.

Have love for your friend up to a limit for it is possible he may turn into your enemy some day; and hate your enemy up to a limit for it is possible he may turn into your friend some day.

Soldiers defending a country at war are not subject to the rules of procedure designed for court trials. For example, if a soldier encounters an enemy, under internationally agreed upon rules of war, that soldier can take whatever action is necessary to protect himself and neutralize his enemy, whether it involves capturing and detaining the enemy or killing him on the spot.

There is not a beast of the field but may trust his nature and follow it; certain that it will lead him to the best of which he is capable. But as for us, our only invincible enemy is our nature.

It is almost impossible to be a doctor and an honest man, but it is obscenely impossible to be a psychiatrist without at the same time bearing the stamp of the most incontestable madness: that of being unable to resist that old atavistic reflex of the mass of humanity, which makes any man of science who is absorbed by this mass a kind of natural and inborn enemy of all genius.

So they (the pagans) are going to say, You tell me that Christ has risen again, and from that you hope for the resurrection of the dead; but Christ was in a position to rise from the dead. And now he begins to praise Christ, not in order to do him honor, but to make you despair. It is the deadly cunning of the serpent, to turn you away from Christ by praising Christ, to extol deceitfully the one he doesnt dare to disparage. He exaggerates the sovereign majesty of Christ in order to make him out quite unique, to stop you hoping for anything like what was demonstrated in his rising again. And he seems, apparently, to be all the more religiously respectful of Christ, when he says, Look at the person who dares compare himself to Christ, so that just because Christ rose again, he can imagine that he's going to rise again too! Don't let this perverse praise of your emperor disturb you. The insidious tricks of the enemy may disturb you, but the humility and humanity of Christ should console you. This man emphasizes how high above you Christ has been lifted up; Christ, though, says how low he came down to you.

In general I might agree with you: women should not contemplate war, should not weigh tactics impartially, or evade the word enemy, or view both sides and denounce nothing. Women should march for peace, or hand out white feathers to arouse bravery, spit themselves on bayonets to protect their babies, whose skulls will be split anyway, or, having been raped repeatedly, hang themselves with their own hair. These are the functions that inspire general comfort. That, and the knitting of socks for the troops and a sort of moral cheerleading. Also: mourning the dead. Sons, lovers, and so forth. All the killed children.

Fear is the greatest enemy; the father of all suffering, and love is the only cure for humanitys great afflictions.

Knowledge is that possession that no misfortune can destroy, no authority can revoke, and no enemy can control. This makes knowledge the greatest of all freedoms.

Nobody will ever win the Battle of the Sexes. There's just too much fraternizing with the enemy.

It is easy enough to be friendly to one's friends. But to befriend the one who regards himself as your enemy is the quintessence of true religion. The other is mere business.

My view is that you don't just talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies, as well. And the diplomacy involves talking to your enemies. You don't reward your enemies necessarily, by talking to them if you're tough and you know what you're doing. You don't appease them. Talking to an enemy is not, in my view, appeasement. I made 15 trips to Syria in 1990-1991 at a time when Syria was on the list of countries who are state sponsors of terrorism. And the 16th trip, guess what? Lo and behold, Syria changed 25 years of policy and agreed for the first time in history to come sit at the table with Israel, which is what Israel wanted at the time. And, thereby, implicitly recognized Israel's right to exist. Now, all I'm saying is that would never have happened if we hadn't been sufficiently dedicated that we were going to keep at it.
James Addison Baker, III

It's him, in the night- Doctor Who. He travels in the Tardis, the fantastic space telephone box. The interior is much larger than the exterior And that is the mystery of Doctor Who The enemy, he's called Davros, the captain of the Daleks. He's half-Dalek, half-man- incredible! He wants to control the world, always control the world He wakes up in the morning, he wants to control the world After breakfast, he wants to control the world! But he never controls the world- it's not very realistic. With Daleks, the Doctor a superior. "Exterminate! Exterminate again! Oh, no! We are lost!" The doctor wins, he laughs 'Ha ha ha- I won because I am Doctor Who

Certainly, in taking revenge, a man is but even with his enemy; but in passing it over, he is superior; for it is a prince's part to pardon.

Extremes are ultimately their own side's worst enemy.

If you learn to know your enemy before you hate him, you may learn not to have an enemy. Too often a Montmer will take one today over three yesterdays and two tomorrows. To see the world with the eyes of others is to stand atop a new mountain. Knowing the length of a Montmers ear wont tell you if he can listen. Better to live with ten Montmers in uneasy peace than one in a war. When you take one backward hop it requires two hops to go forward. You are never more alone when you are followed by many. Fear not the weak, only they try to hide their weaknesses. Nothing in the world is so small that the sun cannot warm it. Truth is often painful to speak but soothing to live. Of all things the hardest to keep is a promise. Lies fly then fall. Truth hops but keeps going. Of all challenges the greatest is to be yourself. They who pine for the past, fear the future. A life without a challenge is a life not lived. Life is given. The rest one gives oneself. Ignorance is the cruelest weather. Only the dead have no choices. The future begins in the past.
Edward Irving Wortis

Biography should be written by an acute enemy.

I think it well ... for the man in the street to realise that there is no power on earth that can protect him from being bombed. Whatever people may tell him, the bomber will always get through. The only defence is offence, which means that you will have to kill women and children more quickly than the enemy if you want to save yourselves.

The key to success is to risk thinking unconventional thoughts. Convention is the enemy of progress. As long as you've got slightly more perception that the average wrapped loaf, you could invent something.
Trevor G. Baylis

O Lord! If you give us victory, I shall see that no enemy warrior is left alive until their river runs with their blood!

No tool is more beneficial than intelligence. No enemy is more harmful than ignorance.
Al-Shaykh Al-Mufid

I wish more of us could understand that our increasing isolation, no matter how much it seems to express pride and self-affirmation, is not the answer to our problems. Rather, the answer is a revival of our ancient commitment to God, who rules over all the peoples of the world and exalts no one over any other, and to the moral and spiritual values which were once legendary in America. We must reach out our hand in friendship both to those who would befriend us and those who would be our enemy. We must believe in the power of education. We must respect just laws. We must love ourselves, our old and or young, our women as well as our men. I see nothing inconsistent between being proud of oneself and one's ancestors and, at the same time, seeing oneself first and foremost a member of the commonwealth of all races and creeds.
Arthur Robert Ashe, Jr.

We must remain constantly vigilant. We dare not underestimate our enemy. Al Qaeda is committed to the destruction of America, and they are in it for the long haul. They are much smarter than many give them credit for being, and they are definitely much more patient than the pace of our fast-food society conditions us to be. Their commitment does not depend on bin Laden or any other single leader.
