As a colored woman I might enter Washington any night, a stranger in a strange land, and walk miles without finding a place to lay my head.... The colored man alone is thrust out of the hotels of the national capital like a leper.... Surely nowhere in the world do oppression and persecution based solely on the color of the skin appear more hateful and hideous than in the capital of the United States, because the chasm between the principles upon which this Government was founded, in which it still professes to believe, and those which are daily practiced under the protection of the flag, yawn so wide and deep.
I often say of George Washington that he was one of the few in the whole history of the world who was not carried away by power.
The proposed state non-game wildlife grants mark a real first in national conservation history, ... Never before has Washington offered a dedicated source of federal funding to the states for them to tailor programs benefiting all wildlife.
It would be hard to blame you for having trouble taking much of what is said in Washington seriously. You heard about the Medicare actuary who was forced to fudge the numbers and lie to Congress to keep his job. You heard the falsified numbers in Iraq on everything from the cost of the war to the number of trained Iraqi troops to a slam dunk case for weapons of mass destruction. You heard about the administration sponsored fake newscasts to mislead people all across America.
Our Founding Fathers would shudder to see how easily forces outside the mainstream now seem to effortlessly push some Senate leaders toward conduct the American people don't want from their elected leaders: Abusing power. Inserting the government into our private lives. Injecting religion into debates about public policy. Jumping through hoops to ingratiate themselves to their partys base, while step by step, day by day, real problems that keep American families up at night fall by the wayside here in Washington.
New York used to be the financial capital of the world. It's no longer even the financial capital of the U.S. For the moment, Washington is.
I would love to see a march on Washington that says 'Save our Social Security'.
Up until now Washington has worried that terrorists will become hackers. Perhaps we all should worry that hackers will become terrorists.
All the other candidates are making speeches about how much they have done for this country, which is ridiculous. I havent done anything yet, and I think its just common sense to send me to Washington and make me do my share.
During the last 100 days we have seen an orgy. It would make any local smorgasbord embarrassed if you looked at this spending orgy we've seen in Washington. So it's no surprise our national debt is now soaring over $11 trillion dollars. The government spent its wad by April 26. Every dime government spends after April 26 throughout the rest of this fiscal year is borrowed money.
You are a guardian and protector of liberty. You may be the only thing that stands between freedom and slavery. And if you can, join those who are willing to take a stand in Washington, DC on 9-12. If not, stand together somewhere in your community on 9-12. Get involved. They're very well organized in their communities, and I didn't realize how many socialist communities there were.
Y'know, when I said SEIU and ACORN, these were the brownshirts, people said that's crazy and I hope to God it is. But you tell me what they are if they're not thugs, enforcing the will of the masters in Washington. Be very careful, because the things that I have told you on this program were coming are here. We are in the most dangerous point in our republic, I believe, since the Civil War. We may be in the most dangerous place ever, because our people are different, our people are not as connected to God as we once were.
There is a sort of an unwritten code in Washington, among the underworld and the hustlers and these other guys that I am their friend.
We have this final, slim chance to break the deadlock on a comprehensive bill that will generate energy at prices people can afford to pay. I hope enough senators will come back to Washington with a new viewpoint, and that the Senate can drum up the two more votes needed to pass this legislation.
If you don't want to read about it in the Washington Post, don't do it because you probably will.
Partisanship may be King in Washington but the rest of us dont have to pay tribute.
When you go to Washington now, you can feel a sense of fear in the air the fear to do anything, or say anything, that might affect the polls, or give the other side an advantage, or offend a special interest.
Were paying more for the privilege of getting sick and dying early. Once again, it makes no sense. And once again, no one in Washington is talking about how to fix it.
The air in a man's lungs 10,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 atoms, so that sooner or later every one of us breathes an atom that has been breathed before by anyone you can think of who has ever lived Michelangelo or George Washington or Moses.
