Meditation brings wisdom; lack of mediation leaves ignorance. Know well what leads you forward and what hold you back, and choose the path that leads to wisdom
Buddha
We could say that meditation doesn't have a reason or doesn't have a purpose. In this respect it's unlike almost all other things we do except perhaps making music and dancing. When we make music we don't do it in order to reach a certain point, such as the end of the composition. If that were the purpose of music then obviously the fastest players would be the best. Also, when we are dancing we are not aiming to arrive at a particular place on the floor as in a journey. When we dance, the journey itself is the point, as when we play music the playing itself is the point. And exactly the same thing is true in meditation. Meditation is the discovery that the point of life is always arrived at in the immediate moment
Alan Watts
Meditation here may think down hours to moments. Here the heart may give a useful lesson to the head and learning wiser grow without his books
William Cowper
The more intense the nature of a man, the more readily will he find meditation, and the more successfully will he practice it.
James Allen
The flowering of love is meditation.
Jiddu Krishnamurti
Meditation practice is regarded as a good and in fact excellent way to overcome warfare in the world; our own warfare as well as greater warfare
Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
The man whose whole activity is diverted to inner meditation becomes insensible to all his surroundings. If he loves, it is not to give himself, to blend in fecund union with another being, but to meditate on his love. His passions are mere appearances, being sterile. They are dissipated in futile imaginings, producing nothing external to themselves.
Emile Durkheim
Finding a calm place inside myself through meditation kind of helped me to get over a lot of mental illness ... it's just been a really great thing in my life.
Roseeanne Barr
Meditation and water are wedded for ever.
Herman Melville
You contemplate and you wander without any worries, between heaven and earth, in your own private world, and in this way you acquire supreme freedom.
Gao Xingjian
But if the elephant of my mind is firmly bound On all sides by the rope of mindfulness, All fears will cease to exist And all virtues will come into my hand.
Shantideva
Will all be bound By binding my mind alone. And will all be subdued By subduing my mind alone.
Shantideva
The Perfect Teacher himself has shown That in this way all fears As well as all boundless miseries Originate from the mind
Shantideva
It is not possible for me To restrain the external course of things; But should I restrain this mind of mine What would be the need to restrain all else ?
Shantideva
Even those who wish to find happiness and overcome misery Will wander with no aim nor meaning If they do not comprehend the secret of the mind- The paramount significance of Dharma.
Shantideva
